"She turned to the sunlight
And shook her yellow head,
And whispered to her neighbor:
"Winter is dead."
- A.A. Milne

i've missed this blog. we've been living a full life the past couple of weeks and, now that spring finally seems to have sprung, i'm hoping for even more long days filled with new memories.

be back soon.

"For it is good to be children sometimes, and never better than at Christmas,
when its mighty Founder was a child Himself."

“It was November--the month of crimson sunsets, parting birds, deep, sad hymns of the sea, passionate wind-songs in the pines. Anne roamed through the pineland alleys in the park and, as she said, let that great sweeping wind blow the fogs out of her soul.”

there is something about the crisp air and quickly approaching holidays and the promise of twinkling lights that allows you to breathe deep, exhaling the weight of so many things.

the past few days, i've found myself in a struggle between being overwhelmed with stress and being overcome with thankfulness.

but i want this season of thankfulness to win.
and breed a life of thankfulness in this weary heart of mine.

and with these two, i have more than enough reason to be well on my way.

"when the first baby laughed for the first time, its laugh broke into a thousand pieces, and they all went skipping about, and that was the beginning of fairies."
- j.m. barrie, Peter Pan

i've heard this quote a hundred times, but now i really get it. i'm pretty sure this is what he had in mind.

goodness, i love this face.

8.8.13

"How can it be a large career to tell other people's children about the Rule of Three,
and a small career to tell one's own children about the universe?
How can it be broad to be the same thing to everyone,
and narrow to be everything to someone?
No.
A woman's function is laborious,
but because it is gigantic,
not because it is minute.
I will pity Mrs. Jones for the hugeness of her task;
I will never pity her for its smallness.”
- g.k. chesterton

counting these moments (and this task) as precious today. lest they fly past without imprinting themselves on my heart.

Since it is so likely that (children) will meet cruel enemies, let them at least have heard of brave knights and heroic courage. Otherwise you are making their destiny not brighter but darker.”C.S. Lewis
here's to years of fairy tales. push on, brave little knight.
